‘Journeys’ Puppetry Shows, Faraday School, June 5th 2013

‘Journeys’ Puppetry Shows was the culmination of a 6 week collaborative project between under 10s at Faraday Primary School and 3rdthought

Directed by Peter Avery - this was a creative collaboration between Faraday School and 3rdthought. The children wrote and performed their own stories based on Journeys and Fairy Tales.

Journeys’ Puppetry Shows was part of the 1st Framework/ 3rdthought support for an initiative to restore this traditional caravan and reinstate it for use as a touring theatre, in order to take out-of-the-ordinary performance and art into the community.

The caravan was first built to house a circus performer's family in 1892 and moonlighted fifty years later as a horse driven tea room when two intrepid young women refurbished it to mark the end of WWII. Now, it in its third century it was being reborn, this time as a travelling stage - going to the places most theatres can’t get to.

The Caravan Theatre was planned to be an invitation for people from all walks of life and all ages to meet and share stories through performance. The emphasis would be on collaboration and bringing together groups of people who might not normally work together so that we could learn from one another and share our own stories. The caravan would be a place to listen or take part in performance both playful and poignant.
